In my opinion, a cultural product is something that a group of people with a common cultural background can unite and feel a sense of belonging. The role of cultural products will be different when this group of people face different situations in different times. In my opinion, cultural products can produce different values and social concepts, which can not only enrich people’s knowledge but also influence their emotions. The musical works can particularly make people feel the author’s emotions and the meaning he/she wants to express. For example, music describing war can make people feel a sense of the magnificence of defending the country and fighting on the battlefield, while other music describing the future in times of peace can make people feel that the future is hopeful and bright.
When discussing the place of cultural products in political struggles, I feel that when a certain type of cultural product is more accepted by more people, the organizations associated with it will receive more support. In other words, different organizations in the political struggle can get more support through different cultural products. For example, in the days before the presidential election in the United States, we can see many relevant advertisements on TV and the Internet, as well as many videos and songs supporting different parties. These cultural products can not only unite people who originally support one party, but also influence the choice of people who are not particularly inclined. After the presidential election, people may see reports, books, and related stories about the new president. Although these cultural products may be praising or critical, they all allow more people to begin to know about the new president, which inevitably leads to more support.
It is also because of the characteristic that cultural products can spread quickly, cultural products that are popular in one country can become popular in other countries. For the government, it is a very important thing to choose the cultural products that are allowed to be imported. At the same time, a country can also export values to other countries through cultural products.
For me, it’s exciting to feel my culture when I am in another culture. I remember when I came to the U.S. to study abroad, listening to Chinese songs was my main way of relaxing; it wasn’t just that I felt relaxed, I also felt more of a sense of security. My understanding of cultural belonging is having a sense of feeling that all the decision you make or thoughts you have are all based on your culture when you are in an unfamiliar environment. What’s more, it is also a way to find some one with the same cultural background, for example, even though I can communicate in two languages, I feel relaxed when I communicate with someone who speaks the same native language. Different cultures have different festivals, and when the festivals in my culture comes, I look forward to it more, because it’s not only a celebration of the culture, but also a reminder of personal memories.
I think that different cultures also have similarities, so the world I hope for is one where everyone can respect a different culture before learning about it, and consider each culture as equally important. I hope I can let more people know about my culture, and share cultural products that I like. I also think that everyone should be proud of their culture because it is not only the epitome of the history, but also the base of one’s personality.
